Earthquake Refugee Shacks
Western Neighborhoods Project
One of four cottages rehabilitated by our group will be on display at Yerba Buena Lane (south side of Market street, between 3rd and 4th streets).
Interpretive displays and exhibits by the San Francisco Building Department will accompany it.
April 1 - April 30, 2006
Hours: 10 am - 6 pm daily.
Yerba Buena Lane (Market street, near 4th)
San Francisco, CA 94102
Over 5,000 earthquake shacks housed over 16,000 refugees of the 1906 earthquake and fire. They were then moved out of the camps to private lots across the city, helping to repopulate San Francisco.
General public. Free event.
We could use some volunteer docents while the shack are on display from April - June 2006.
Carpenters and others interested in helping us rehabilitate the other three shacks are also welcome!
