WritersCorps Presents SOLID GROUND Book (poetry readings)

Tuesday, April 11, 2006

6 PM

Celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the earthquake by shaking the ground with words. Join local WritersCorps youth poets and their teachers as they read from their new collection, SOLID GROUND. Editor Judith Tannenbaum, youth poets, and WritersCorps alum read their earthquake-themed poetry.

SOLID GROUND is a collection of more than 130 poems by WritersCorps youth, published by Aunt Lute Books in commemoration of the centennial of the 1906 Great Earthquake of San Francisco.

Fast forward 100 years from that tumultuous quake, and listen to the voices of today's young writers as they speak of dislocation and upheaval in these unstable times. Their writing is proof of poetry's power to help all of us find "solid ground" in the midst of the chaos.

Cost: Free event. Note: Exploratorium date requires museum admission fee.
