"An Awful Calamity!" The South Bay and the 1906 Earthquake
Monday, April 17, 2006
Mon - Fri: 11 am - 6 pm
Sat: 1 pm - 6 pm
This exhibit will tell the story of what happened in Santa Clara County during and after the 1906 earthquake using photos, letters, telegrams, newspaper articles and other documents.
The effects of the 1906 earthquake in Santa Clara County are usually overshadowed by the devastation in San Francisco. Santa Clara County also experienced its share of fire, ruined buildings, chaos, and loss of life. Few people know that over 100 patients and staff died when buildings at the Agenews Mental Hospital collapsed because of the 1906 earthquake.
Cost: Free event.
